Introduction

Point-of-care ultrasound can determine the nature and volume of gastric contents when n.p.o. (nil per os) status is unknown or uncertain in the immediate perioperative or perianesthetic period.

As such, it may be a useful for anesthesiologists, emergency physicians or intensivists to evaluate aspiration risk prior to initiating sedation, anesthesia or airway management.
